One of the perks of living in the Northwest

Is that famous people often come into where I work. Sometimes it's an author like Sherman Alexie or a former United States Senetor like Slade Gordon. But, every once-in-a-while, I get a gem. Last night it was Bill and Melinda Gates purchasing over $1000 in merchandise. Thanks Bill for getting me to my financial stretch goal for the day.

All I get in the way of customers-of-note are smelly homless people (a new one has appeared; we cleverly refer to him as "stink-bomb"), and guys whose friends call them names such as "Crush," and "Beef." Was Sherman Alexie funny? I hear he does stand-up.

That is too cool. What exactly does a $1000 worht of books cost? What I wouldn't give to be able to purchase that many books at once--probably a $1000.

All I remember seeing was "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," and "Javascript:In Easy Steps." Sherman Alexie is a drunk and $912 worth of books will cost you $1000 after sales tax in King County, Washington. Melissa, does Walt Whiff-man/Stinky Santa still come in?

What a coincidence! The other day I was telling some coworkers about this post and the conversation naturally led to discussion of other books. One of my coworkers metnioned she had recently heard of this book, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" and I mentioned that I had and would bring it in for her.

On another note, another coworker mentioned that it was actually somewhat difficult to get a job at Barnes and Noble since they want people who are really well read. What bookstore do you work at and is it expected that you willbe and continue to be very well read? In all areas or just a few of your favorites?

Actually, my job allows for very little reading time. I'm also usually too busy to see what's new. Ironic? I might as well be selling auto parts.

I haven't seen or smelled Stinky Santa in a few weeks; let's keep our fingers crossed. Isn't alcoholism a big problem for Native Americans? I mean, bigger than for other groups living in the US?
